Just an update on Chiang Khong. I just came back through. This was my 3rd land entry this calendar year. And second Chiang Khong crossing in a row. Last one was 30 days. This was 60.

It's now 1 night instead of 2. Laos still took 2000 THB for the VOA.

Thai immigration gave a document showing requirements to come back the next day.

10,000 THB, outbound flight to country of origin, and proof of accommodation in Thailand for duration of stay.

They didn't ask to see the 10k baht on the way back in. But he did take 5 minutes examining the plane ticket screenshot and was on his computer verifying it's legitimacy.

I showed my TM30 as proof of stay. He didn't pay much attention to it.

Make sure you have your plane ticket.

I am in Chiang Mai ... I want to border bounce at Chiang Khong, entering Lao on my O/A Retirement extension with no re-entry permit .. returning to Thailand with a 30 or 45 day exemption or whatever is easiest ... are there any proofs of onward travel, proof of accomodation or proof of funds required returning to Thailand? ... I am planning on shared transportation or a VIP bus ... def. not a van ... any recommendations welcome ... thanks

Could I get an update in regards to going to Tachileik crossing over to the Burma side and returning and getting the 45 days "visa exempt" stamp (being from Canada)? I've heard stories about it being closed? and something about not getting stamps or holding the passports? In other words is it a viable "border bounce"?

(Feel free not to post this if it’s not helpful/important information) Yesterday, we successfully did a visa run at the Chiang Khong border crossing into Laos and back. Our education visa was about to expire, so we entered back into Thailand on a visa exempt stamp (which will give us 30 days to apply for our new visa). Immigration was very empty on both sides. It took our family three and half hours to make the whole loop. One hour was just waiting for the shuttle to take us across the bridge. It’s only running about every 30 minutes. The health checks on both sides also added time. I’m not sure what other information would be helpful to share, but I’d be glad to answer questions about our experience.
