Is the Tachileik border crossing to Burma currently open for Canadians seeking a visa exempt stamp?

Could I get an update in regards to going to Tachileik crossing over to the Burma side and returning and getting the 45 days "visa exempt" stamp (being from Canada)? I've heard stories about it being closed? and something about not getting stamps or holding the passports? In other words is it a viable "border bounce"?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Tachileik border crossing to Burma is currently closed to foreigners, with reports indicating it has been shut for about two years with no signs of reopening. Visitors are advised to consider alternative crossings, such as the Golden Triangle Crossing with Laos or the Chiang Khong border crossing, which are more viable options for obtaining visa extensions or stamps.

When it's open, it's a "viable" bounce but if you're already in the area, just half an hour's drive away is the Golden Triangle Crossing with Laos. A further 45-50 minutes to the south-east from there is the Chiang Khong border crossing, which is the one most foreigners use due to there being a bridge and also cross-border buses operating.

“Burma” shut. Don’t you read the news?

You obviously don't read the news as the Mae Sot crossing just opened today.

You been away for 2 years? Where have you been where they don't have internet and news?

North Korea?

All Myanmar border crossings are closed to foreigners. Have been for 2 years or so. No likelihood of that changing anytime soon.

Mae Sot just reopened to Thais and Burmese not sure about foreigners. Up until today, Burmese needed special permission to cross at land borders and only as repatriates - Thailand did not permit entry except for traders and drivers delivering goods at specific checkpoints. For ordinary travelers, today marks the first day borders are open.

However, it's reported that Thais have been allowed to visit some islands off the southernmost part of Myanmar since at least early December. Foreigners are not permitted at present.
