Can I obtain a Thai driver's license without having one in my home country?

Everything else post:

Wife bought car, and want to share the the driving but the thing is I never took license in my own country since I enjoyed the bus or taxi more relaxing and more easy.

So my question is;

So can I take license in Thailand without owning it in my own country? Can anyone guide us?

TIA 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual is inquiring about the process of obtaining a driver's license in Thailand without having one from their home country, as they have never driven before. According to community responses, they need to start from scratch, including learning to drive, passing a written exam, and undergoing a driving test. Additionally, they will require a residence certificate from immigration and a medical certificate. Joining a driving school is recommended to facilitate the process.

To get the residence certificate, you may be staying longer than 3 monthss ( but if married, that shouldn’t give problems)

What some call “simple tests”, isn’t simple if you are colorblind, the you will fail 2 out of the 3 tests.

Don't know what province you are in but usually there is a driving test centre not far from the DLT ,in Roi et it's basically the other side of the road or Dual carriageway

For non drivers the simplest thing is to sign up for a week of lessons with a driving school. They'll take you through everything including the online test, and if you pass They'll give you a bit of paper to take to the DLT to get a license. You'll still need a residence certificate and medical certificate but it's very straightforward

If you don’t have any driving experience either you need to go to a driving school. The process and exams are one thing, but you really need experience to drive in one of the most deadly traffics in the world.

For the license you’ll need a residence certificate from the immigration and a doctor’s statement regarding general health condition.

If you want to take both motorcycle and car, you’ll need to do two theoretical tests with 50 questions and you need 45 correct answers. After you’ll do a practical driving test in the backyard for both.

Then you’ll need to watch a movie and do some simple test regarding sight and reaction. If you pass everything you’ll get licences for two years. Fee for both is 700-800 thb.

DLT Department of Land and Transportation. The test is in English.

If you want both car and bike licences, you will need 2 sets of documents, one for each

You'll need to do the entire process from the beginning.

First step is learn to drive.

Then you'll have to apply at the DLT and take a written exam.

You'll also have to take a driving test.

Fulfill all the other requirements and you can get a license.

“Thailand” + “learn to drive”

Suggest spending a few months in the US as a demolition derby driver in order to prepare.

DLT? and is the test in Thai or English?

department of land transport. And it's in English but very badly translated. You should research the test before taking it so you know the badly translated questions that are difficult to answer correctly.

Your wife should know the process if she had a driver's license.

I don't know if Thailand has a learner's permit. My Thai friends all went to driving school.
