So I’m about to stay 6 months in Thailand, previously was here for 3 on tourist visa. What is everybody’s thoughts regarding becoming a tax resident after 180 days? It’s this huge issue that’s lingering over my head and it’s stopping me from enjoying myself because I’m paranoid about future tax complications.

So far there’s no clear answers or guidelines for anything, which makes it even more confusing. Has anyone gone to the tax office or tried to register for tax ID? How is everyone going to deal with this?

If anyone has any insight or experience with trying to work this out with officials would be interested in hearing your thoughts

Self employed and applying in Ho Chi Minh

I have bank statements, client contracts, paid invoices, etc.

Do i need to submit my business registration and/or tax ID?

And is there any other documentation that can give me an advantage for quick approval?

If both are needed, i can submit, but i need to make sure I have every single doc to make this smooth as possible as most of my life is currently in Thailand since I've been living here a few months hahah

Thailand Taxes.

It is my understanding that anyone who stays in Thailand a total 180 day (could be multiple times) during the tax year and brings money to Thailand or puts money into at Thai Bank must get a tax ID and file at Thailand tax return.

If your country has a double tax agreement with Thailand you can get a tax exemption.

Does anyone have any idea how the tax exemption will work and what documents you will need to provide?

Will Thailand charge you a tax if they don't think you paid enough tax on the money you brought into Thailand?

Some money in the US are tax exempt so how will the Thai government decide whether the money I brought into Thailand was taxed or not?

We call the Thailand Revenue Department and we're not able to get any answers.

I'm not willing to provide Thailand all my financial information. At transcript of my US tax return is all I would be willing to provide.

When applying for a tourist visa at the embassy in Kuala Lumpur, one of the requirements states needing booking accomodation for my entire stay in Thailand as well as the tax id of the hosts. Is this strictly enforced? Has anyone gotten a tourist visa at the KL embassy recently?
