Trevor ThomasYes, exactly what I did last month. I flew to Penang and back to Bangkok with proof of another years insurance. If you live near a land border you can just do a border bounce if you don't want to fly out.

I just googled which countries your girlfriend can visit without a visa and they include Andorra, Cyprus, Georgia.

Ok, but your saying she can only stay 180 days at a time? If she has to leave UK it should be easy to pop over to France or maybe Ireland.

They used to be only 6 months visa, never heard of a 2 year visa.
