What are the limits for border runs and re-entering Thailand with a student visa?

No one can 100% confirm it depends on the IO you stand on front of on the day doing it yourself.

Border run company do these runs regular and as John said will not agree to take you if they can not get you back in to Thailand.

 I paid for all my visa,s but Australia are a heap cheaper than NZ theirs is the most expensive from any country.

 Where did I suggest anything about a ED visa I only discussed ME TR60. I didn't so why tell me about them. I simply replied yes to a question I did not suggest going that path.
