i had the same problem, went to my branch and they ask for longterm visa or rentalcontract of a house etc. since i have neither nor, they closed my account!

not true, i even Opend an account at bkk bank In Phuket on a visa excemption just had to extend for a new 30 day stamp got letter from my hotel , went to Immigration for their letter and than i had no problem
