When they asked me to buy insurance, I laughed and asked them, “why would I buy insurance when I already had insurance as a condition of my visa”?

When they were unable to answer, they gave up on the so called “requirement”.

Thai Customs declaration replaces the bank letter

I believe you are incorrect. Immigration doesn’t care how funds get here as long as it’s a legal foreign transfer.

AFAIK You can declare the currency to Thai Customs Officials upon entering Thailand in order to prove foreign origin.

I would never check an expensive helmet. Only carry on.

If you are worried about too many bags, just wear it through the gate.

is this a retirement plan?

Much better to enter Thailand on a tourist visa. Then apply in country for an extension of stay based on retirement.

That way health insurance (not covid insurance) is currently not required and if you do want health insurance you can purchase it from any provider in any country and not just the 14 Thai companies approved by Thailand.

There are only 14 approved health/covid insurance companies for OA visas and extensions. You must choose an applicable policy from an approved entity.

You can’t just choose a health insurance policy from DTac or a life insurance policy your bank. SMH.

So, paying ฿1,000,000 THB up front for 20 years is a better option in your opinion?

Wrong. Elite Agents do the 90 day reporting for you.

I added the costs and services of an agent to the retirement visa expenses in order to have a common denominator to compare it to an equivalent Elite visa for someone that wants a generally hassle free experience.
