There's plenty of opportunity to use them. I carry a leather pocket change purse for paying for lunch or 7-11, etc.

That's possible, but I'd recommend speaking with immigration before doing it.

I recommend anyone thinking of doing this, speak to their local immigration office, as not all offices treat things the same.

I moved my money from a Bangkok Bank Branch in Phuket, to a Branch in Chiang Mai and immigration would not except my deposit, because it moved.

I tried and thought I could get away with it, but had to leave the country and reapply.

I recently had to go to Bangkok Bank to verify a long term visa and show a one year lease, or home ownership in order to not have my account frozen. They told me they are closing all accounts that aren't on a long term visa. They said it's complicated and will take time, as just that one branch has over 800 foreign accounts and some of the people on a visa are out of the Country. If you can, you should apply for a long term visa. It's a bit crazy. You need a bank account to get a long term visa, but can't get one unless you have a long term visa. Catch-22. Agents seem to be able to work around this issue. You were lucky to get one on your own.

I read they were going to start requiring passing a written test for renewal even if you already have a 5 year license. I'm not sure when, if at all, it's going into effect.

Anyone know more about this?

I'm just saying that because some people aren't aware that Thailand is now taxing funds that are transfered into the Country, with exceptions.
