I assumed they already have a TM30 for their home in Bangkok. Maybe that assumption is incorrect. But if they do have TM30 for Bangkok then they can go to any immigration office in Thailand. They don’t have to go back to Bangkok to accomplish what they need to do.

the TM30 is required for any extension or 90 day report, so yes no TM30 you will be turned away from ANY office. That is not what they asked. You do not have to file at the immigration office in the same city you are living. For example, my TM30 shows I’m living in Pattaya but I can go to any immigration office in Thailand. Some people come from Bangkok to file their extension or 90-day report in Pattaya because the immigration office here isn’t as busy, it’s faster.

You can apply under the Soft Power option for the DTV but as the other commenter said, you’ll need a bank statement showing you have 500K baht ($15K USD)

Yes, I went through the Chicago Thai embassy in September and it only took a week for my husband to get his approval and then I applied as a dependent under his and was approved the following week (applied Sept 7 and was approved Sept 13).

1. Yes, joint bank account statement is what my husband and I used when we applied. He applied first using the soft power option and then once he was approved I applied as his spouse/dependent under his visa number.

2. Technically no, you can’t open a Thai bank account with the DTV; however, there are agents you can pay to open one for you.

3. Yes, you have to leave every 180 days or pay for an extension but you can only extend once per year. You will also have to report to immigration every 90 days (or leave to reset).
