I opened an account at Krungsri bank and they didn't ask for proof of address. Only my passport was required. They weren't concerned about what kind of visa I had either. But that was some time ago so I'm not sure if their policy has changed.

 it doesn't matter what the transaction is. You could transfer 50 baht into a mobile phone account for instance.

With my bank you have to make at least one transaction per year for the account to remain active.

 I don't know why 7-Eleven is so behind the times. They don't accept QR code or a debit card. They do accept the True Money app or cash of course
