I’ve never gotten a receipt for any visa extension and I’ve done them in 3 different cities in Thailand since 2022.

that is the time frame you’re allowed to use the tourist visa, not how long the tourist visa actually is. August 2nd is the last day you’ll be able to use that visa before it expires.

the extension itself isn’t 90 days but 30 days (add that to the initial 60 days given and it totals to 90). The approval is just filling out the application and paying the 1,900 extension fee. Unless you’re a serial border runner or tourist visa user (they want long term visas if you plan to stay in Thailand for an extended period of time) then you should be approved. But it’s up to the discretion of the officer. I always try to get to the immigration office first thing in the morning so I can increase my chances of coming across an officer in a good mood and decrease the time it takes for me to get approval (fastest was 30 minutes, longest 2 hours because it got very busy).

60 day tourist visa, 90 days if you’re approved for the 30 day extension. Also, if you’re crossing by land to get back into Thailand after, make sure they give you the right stamp. The officer didn’t see the tourist visa sticker I got (it was on the very last page of my passport) so he have me the visa exemption visa instead. I have to go back to Chiang mai immigration to get the visas converted. But that was an error on my part since I didn’t check the stamp before I left since I was rushing to get to the train.

no problem and yes, 5 days is the safest bet just in case things don’t go according to plan. I would also recommend staying at the Hide:Seek hostel too. Breakfast included and it’s literally right around the corner from the embassy so it makes things very convenient.

You can only apply for a 3-month METV if you’re a residence of Laos (I recently applied for a single entry at the Thai embassy in Laos and was going to go this route but couldn’t because of that requirement). It took around 3 days and 1,000 baht for them to give me a single entry tourist visa. Just make sure you book an appointment well in advance, they fill up very quickly and you can’t enter the embassy without an appointment. Good luck with everything!

I may be wrong but I think you automatically get switched to a 5-year when you have to update a changed address.

If you're going to get a Tourist visa in Laos you need to go to the website now and book an appointment now. There's no walk-ins and the appointments are booked up weeks in advance. There isn't another open Laos visa appointment until June.

I recently went to Lao for a visa run. Literally just went to Cafe Amazon for 2 hours to do some work/finish some assignments then I went right back across the border. My entire trip took about 12 hours. Longest thing was waiting in the foreigner line to get stamped in and out. (American that went from extended tourist visa to visa on arrival which was free)

It took 11 days for me back in July and that included me submitting more docs for approval (the new doc approval took less than a day)
