it was to do the translations, paperwork at Dept of Consular Affairs, documentation at Amphur and providing the interpreter and witnesses for the marriage.

I didn't go into it too much as I said, but wished I had later after about 4 trips to Bkk!

The ID card is completely different to citizenship, I agree life is too short for that. The pink ID card saves money at some attractions (you get the Thai price), acts as ID instead of using passport and I believe easier access to government healthcare. Probably other things as well.

No pictures or WhatsApp type messages required in Bkk

.

It's a lot of running around going to different offices on different days.

I am opposed to agents for visas, but if I was to start this process again, I would pay an agent. I think I was quoted something like 8,000 baht and thought nah I will do it myself, but with hindsight 8,000 would have been a small price to pay.

When you get your passport translated, keep copies as they will be useful if you ever want a Thai ID card.

Good luck.

you should have no problem, as Brandon stated you have up to 12 months.

You are not legally allowed to drive now until you renew the licence, so do it as soon as possible.

I think you would be better stating the immigration office you will use as these rules tend to vary.

I read that 6 months is the minimum, but someone will hopefully advise you of the exact requirement at your IO.

Definitely get an international driving permit before you travel. This allows you to obtain the Thai driving licence without doing the driver training other than a 1 hour video.

You also need a medical certificate, but you can get that at any doctors for about 200 Baht.

visitors might stay longer and spend more in Thailand 🤔

I remember it well, it was quite tricky and I am reasonably IT literate. Very clunky system and illogical questions.

Would be easier if

day exempt was introduced.

Good luck.

I am guessing you have no choice on the Pattaya location, but it is not a great place for children.

Have you thought about the potential for regular problems with noise from other guests as it's a hotel in a party location?

I would think about going further out, renting a condo and getting a hire car.

In my experience opening the bank account was the most challenging part of the visa process, so I would do this as soon as possible.

I tried at all the banks in Bluport first, but ultimately managed to get the Boontavorn Bangkok Bank branch to open one.

They sometimes insist on you buying an accident insurance policy from them as a bit of a "sweetener".

More recently I have read people stating the only way to do it now is to use an agent and that costs about 3 to 4,000 Baht.

When you go, dress smartly, be patient and polite and explain that you want to deposit money for retirement.

You need to get a letter from immigration first. Take all of your documents with you. If possible take a Thai speaking friend with you to assist.

Good luck.
