Hello folks,

Has anyone managed to obtain a Thai pink ID card, and if so can you advise me what documents were required.

Also, was a translation and embassy/consulate stamp required for your passport?

TIA.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the process of obtaining a Thai pink ID card, emphasizing that the requirements can vary significantly depending on the local Amphur (district office). Many users share their experiences, mentioning that they typically did not need a certified translation of their passports. It was noted that local offices often do not respond to inquiries, necessitating personal visits to gather information. Some experienced users in different provinces confirm that ID cards can be beneficial for various purposes like banking and vehicle purchases.

Regarding the uselessness of the pink ID card - today I bought a used motorbike in Ubon Rachathani. I used my yellow book for residency and they asked for my pink card and entered the pink card number into the motorbike green book.

Just yellow house book and passport, 30 baht I think.

Also, I'm in Surin province and the Anphoes like you to go in the afternoon because they won't change the colour of the card before then!😂😂😂

I got my yellow book and pink card earlier this year in Kantharalak, Sisaket province. I didn’t need to get any certification of my passport which is just another way of saying you have to go to the office and get the list of required documents if they aren’t answering the phone or email. I had to go to the office on 3 different days over a 6 day period. If you have to go multiple days then you are just going to have to deal with that.

thanks Marty, yes I had realised idifferent requirements are necessary at different offices and that .is abundantly clear from the comments.

I am retired, so I can deal with staying in Ubon for a few days

We moved into our house in January and it was a couple of months before I applied for the yellow book. What I needed to do in January was notify Sisaket immigration that I was now living in the province. The yellow book wasn’t an emergency for me . . . maybe you could do the same and wait until you are living in the area. Good luck.

@Peter ******
My experience has been pink Id has been extremely useful.

@Chris *******
agreed - in Phuket, no need for residency letter for purchasing a vehicle, opening a bank account, etc..:accepted as ID for hotel check ins, reduced fees in national parks eg… 40 Baht to dive at Koh Haa instead of 600 Baht 🤷‍♀️
Peter *******
Often the pink ID card is even more useless than the yellow book
Brook ********
@Peter ******
Do you have both? I find mine extremely useful, and they are often put down by people that do not have them.
Peter *******
@Brook *******
Some people in Pattaya who have them have reported they're useless, for example can't use for driving licence, need residence cert

@Peter ******
The requirements for driving licenses vary not only by province, but by office.

@Brook *******
Yes, it varies how useful they are, also in Pattaya they are a PITA to get

Thanks Brandon, I thought that might be the case.

The slight problem I have is that the Amphur is not answering the phone or emails and I need to do it at an Amphur that is a 9 hour drive away in Ubon Ratchatani.

in my experience you need the owner of the house to accompany you with the blue house book, a letter from immigration as prof of residency along with passport & visa. I have done this in Phuket & later in Buriram but Buriram was after I revcieved my Permanent Residency so no immigration letter needed.

@Robert *********
never needed a Immagration Letter.

like I said that’s just my experience

thanks Robert that's interesting, not seen the requirement of proof of residency from immigration before, but it makes sense.

Did you need a translation of your passport?
Robert **********
@Stuart **********

the Amohur may have someone who will assist and expedite for you worth asking, in my opinion.

While I never paid agents for Extensions of Stay my Yellow Book was thrown in as a bonus with the New House paperwork to get the plans approved and House Registration at the Amphur. Seldom use the Yellow Book but I have found it very useful over the last 20 years,

I know that I will have to go to Ubon. I just want to ensure I have all the documents first. If I need the passport to be certified that will mean a trip into Bangkok to the embassy and dept of consular first.
Michael ********
@Stuart **********
yes i needed certified passport luckily still had the one from marriage. (Save copies of everything)

Still seems odd got to go that far. Will you do yellow book as well as its same paperwork or was for me

@Michael *******
thanks Michael glad I asked in that case.

Yes I will be added to my wife's parents Blue book in Ubon, hence the long journey.
Giorgio *********
@Stuart **********
you can not be added on your wife's blue book but you can make a own yellow book

I am applying in Kanchanaburi and I had to have my passport certified by the British embassy in Bangkok. You get the forms online at the embassy web page and there are links on there to make payment. You can't do it in person at the embassy Andy more.
Giorgio *********
@Stuart **********
can not be so far away. Every little town has an Amphur.

@Giorgio ********
obviously there are Amphur closer to where I live, but the house I will be using to apply is in Ubon (my wife's parents house).
Marc ********
@Stuart **********
So why not have thr wife's parents checking on them for you?
Stuart ***********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Marc *******
yes that will be my next method. Would be interesting to know what other people needed though.
Brandon ************
Any answer you receive will be useless to you, because each local office makes their own rules. You'll only be able to use the local office that covers the address you'll be applying to be in the house book for. So you need to go to that office and ask them what their requirements are.
