When completing applications, say in UK, for most things they ask for proof of where you live. We used bank statements or utility bills. If. Generally not asking for a physical GPS location.

But if you were applying for something like a visa, when not in your home country then I'd expect you'd have something to show where you are: your hotel booking or entry stamp perhaps.
