you pay rent, get receipts, have lease, most people have something that says their location.

most places you live will have some evidence you live there. In UK you usually have an address, or bank document, a bill with address, so not sure why you wouldn't have something even if living anywhere else.

same for some other countries. I had to give address to enter USA. I then stayed several other places. Why does it bother you? Is it because it's Thailand?

Giving an address of accomodation is standard for many other countries. It's not that uncommon.

took me 10 mins to fill in form with my name and info and just over 45 mins for stamp to be done. I had a coffee next door whilst I waited.

Phuket: Just pop down and give them your passport and passport size photo, fill in the form with your info, pay 1900tbt. Go for coffee, pick up passport with extension. (Some immigration office might want tm30. )
