Looks like he's already been living in Thailand on free entry stamps. You haven't divulged his history so it's difficult for anyone to advise any next steps, but it seems serious. I agree with
@Bra****
. Advise him to return to the US, wait a few months then apply for a DTV from there

You obviously have little knowledge on the QR PromptPay system. There's more young Thai people using it than oldies. Not everywhere accepts True Wallet, so the youngsters use QR. They certainly don't use cash!

Whatever it is, it works and is accepted at more outlets than cash, so it's obviously got something going for it 👍

You'd need to ask them why they accept QR code but not Apple Pay. I just know they don't, but not the reasons why!

QR code is more universally accepted in Thailand. You can use this with street vendors, markets etc who would never use Apple or Google Pay. We're not talking technology, we're talking convenience

Anonymous participant 949 You only have to submit a tax return if you have assessable income. What's the point of submitting a blank form? And you're still wrong about the entries and days. 180 days in a calendar year you're a tax resident, even if you have ten entries with 18 days each. It's all the same!

Anonymous participant 949 Wrong on so many counts. Main points, being in the country for 180 days does not mean you must "open a tax file" - this is only required if you have assessable income. Second point you're way off the mark. It's 180 days in a calendar year, it doesn't "refresh" just because you leave and re-enter 😂. Otherwise all the wealthy Thai people would leave after 179 days and come back the next day! Doesn't work that way!

Another person who didn't read the article and then gave some soppy feel-good story which is totally irrelevant to the topic! 😂
