If you can afford it, use an agency, some want to do it on their own and others would rather use the time on other things. I am older and use an agency for everything. Easy peasy.

Depends on where you are. The North every thing you do is going to cost more period. It should be cheaper but it is not.

If you're in the South just go to an agent 4,000 baht. Done.

Why are Bangkok Bank and AIS apps locking foreigners out of their accounts?

The recent scams by the Chinese mafia. BKK Bank was hit hard financially. Unfortunately, their knee jerk reactions has caused even more damage. Too many people are not willing to go through this much drama for them to house OUR money. Other banks are not excessive in this, but they are being extra cautious as to who is opening an account.
