The ignorant person who spoke to your wife is not going to be the one to decide on if you should be allowed in and for how long.
I had a similar conversation with nice IO's at the Petchburi office yesterday because my Brit fiance wanted to attend a horse racing in HK (if it is not cancelled). I was told not to take the risk as he possibly would have an issue with the IO's at the airport.
We always have good travel insurance but somehow I don't think they will accept that.
The IO's also said to get a non-O visa next year as an extension based on the current non O-A would require a health insurance.
We landed on

/19 and my OH was not asked about any insurance at all. Not everyone will be as lucky I am afraid.
This person was found guilty of working illegally and fined 2000 Baht. Case terminated. Banned according to M.12 (3) Immigration Act year 2522 BE. Permitted to leave on 16 Sept 2559 BE.
/20 My OH returns to England and will be back to Thailand in either Sept or Oct 2020. This is the first year on his first non O-A visa.
Because a reasonable and decent travel/health cover from the UK is already in place for us both, depending on the new insurance requirement (and we are waiting for things to pan out as admins here suggest), my OH may try to come to take advantage of the second yr of the same visa or will start afresh by gettinv a non-O from London and change to marriage visa(I am Thai) or retirement visa in Thailand. He can only spend 6 months in Thailand yearly.
A friend said once you are here in Thailand you can then extend your stay yearly on a retirement basis. Is this do-able? Or the only options are as what Tod and Robert said.
My OH is British and only stays in Thailand 6 months a year max. Getting married after many yrs together but unsure if marriage visa is really better as it seems to be a lot of work eg finding witnesses etc.
What is the difference between non O and non O-A then?
Thanks very much in advance.
I hope you don't mind Reto Frei if I join in and ask some questions as my boyfriend is poss going to need non O in the future, too, not to avoid insurance as already has an adequate policy at a reasonable price. Thank you for your post and best of luck.
I would say if someone is that paranoid, just do not use real name or show your face on FB. I don't, due to my previous job being one of the most hated and my name is very unique, poss the only one in the world. A colleague got crap sent to her by post etc.
Sadly, you cannot change your name again, if you set your account up with a fake one!
