Hello.

My husband has a non O-A visa and very recently changed the reason to stay from retirement to having a Thai wife successfully at the Hua Him Imm Office. This means he no longer needs to buy any health insurance.

Can re-entry be problematic due to being on a non O-A visa with no health insurance?

I am sorry if this question is not relevant or has been asked before.

Many thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired whether their husband, who transitioned from a non O-A retirement visa to a non O-A visa based on marriage to a Thai citizen, would face issues with re-entry since he no longer required health insurance. Community responses confirmed that since his extension is for marriage and does not necessitate insurance, he should not encounter problems. However, it's essential for him to obtain a re-entry permit before departing Thailand.

But he needs a re-entry permit before he leaves.

well spotted,
@Bell ******
make sure that your husband has a re-entry permit BEFORE he goes to stamp out (Single 1000baht, multiple 3800baht) available at the immigration office

is that 3800 for a year?

@Jeffrey ******
a re-entry permit is valid as long as your stamp to stay in thailand is valid for (so if you bought a re-entry permit right after you got your year extension, yep it'd be good for a year as well)

A single re-entry permit is 1000baht meaning you can leave/come back once

A multiple re-entry permit is 3800baht meaning you can leave/come back as many times as you want as long as your stamp is valid for.

All he did was change the reason for his yearly extension from one based on holding an OA visa to one based on marriage to a thai. Any immigration officer stamping him in will see that his current extension is for a reason that does not require insurance.

He'll be fine.
