You firstly need to make sure your phone isn't locked to.yoir provider, it needs to be sim free. Then once you get to thailand buy a local.sim card at the airport probably ais. They will put the sim card in for you and you be be live in thailand

You just use the first hotel you are staying in even if it was for just 1 night. When you move to your girlfriends villa she will need to submit a tm30 for your stay. Remember you only need to fill highlighted * boxes in you tdac.

I read it was because they were withdrawing g 50kbaht a day and it was triggering the anit fraud system the banks have and stopping their atm cards

No you can't, the only people I have seen do it are some of the travel agents but they hold your info and still submit the TDAC within the 3 day window. The online form only takes 5 mins and you only need to fill in the highlighted * boxes

How can I find out if I'll receive a 60-day or 30-day visa exemption for my 5-month stay in Thailand?

You won't know about visa exemption but you could just apply for a tourist visa in your own country before you arrive that was you are guaranteed to get your 60 days then extend in country for another 30 days, do a visa run and if it's only 30 days visa exempt then you can extend that again for 30 days meaning you'll be ok.

you really think the immigration officer you are showing your passport to is going to phone your hotel?!!. I just arrived from Japan and I filled out my tdac and as long as it's in the system they don't ask, only to see your passport
