Why the need for a visit to your branch when buying a new phone? I've had several phones over the years and no problem what so ever. I've been with Bangkok Bank many years.

Well,if you have a bank account back home, I guess your phone number and email-address etc etc have to be up to date. At my bank back home it's mandatory. Doing it online is by far the easiest way.

No, you must register phone number and email-address for your account to work properly. Together with passport number it's a part of your profile.

But you need to open a Thai bank account and deposit 800k baht to be able to apply for the 1 year extension at the local immigration office.

You can actually change phone number in the app in Settings - My profile.

And email-address. The only thing you can't change yourself in Bangkok Banks app is passport number.
