The only thing I can add is from my experience 16 months ago is... if you want residency documents immediately... Immigration charge 500THB for a Residency Certificate for each driving licence. (No receipt given) or you can wait seven days is free.

Medical, height weight, blood pressure, medication questions was 150THB at hospital. Temporary 2 year Car licence 205 THB, Motorcycle Licence 105 THB. (Some other small costs for passport photos and photocopying).

The rules have just changed for Motorbikes...anything over 400cc you have to do some additional training. As stated by others if your entitlement to drive / ride is already on your DL and corroborated by IDP you can apply to that licence here in Thailand subject to the local rules and regulations.

I have a full European "Big bike licence", will have to wait to see what wil happen come renewal time in November this year. There has been nothing from the DLT with regard to us Farang who already holding a big bike licence keeping the entitlement that I am aware of. Hopefully can keep this entitlement or will have to do the additional training.

Oh and the speed limits have just been revised too as well as a points system for driving infractions. All sounds daunting at first but really is not that difficult.🙂

I'm pretty sure your local Thai Red Cross Clinic may offer you the cheapest solution?

NI is for pensions and benefits. A common misconception. NHS is funded through income tax.

@Alan ********
NHS is only free to all in emergency cases. It is residency based, three months being the required time. Even ex pats returning to the UK would be liable to pay for inpatient care etc. Wise up people, educate yourselves about the rules. Either that or continue to defraud the system you so love and criticise others for doing so. The NHS will investigate fraudulent usage if it suspects misuse.

Thanks for the info. Saw your informative post about PR too. Let's hope this family can obtain their permanent residency as is the subject of the original post. Good luck to them.
