Well, we passed the New York state Regents exam for Spanish in just 2 years.

Wrong. I took Spanish in high school. They spoke English when necessary. The books were biligual. Learning Thai with Mod videos on youtube uses English as well.

Too bad the kids mostly don't understand English. You're all teaching English as a first languange. It's a second language for them. This explains the ONET and PISA scores.

The main thing is to be able to communicate with students. Can you speak Thai? Oh wait! That's not the main thing at all. Lol

Not true. First they expect foreigners to speak English, and when you try to speak Thai they are listening for English and get confused. I was asking a Thai how long it takes to get to Krabi. But since I wasn't saying Krabeeeee, they didn't know what I was saying when I said Kraby. If learning Thai was so easy we'd all be speaking it. The older you get the more difficult it becomes. An older gent said he learned 5 languages before coming to Thailand 20 years ago and he said he gave up on learning Thai.

If you don't get the tones correct they have no idea what you're saying. It's not as easy as learning Spanish and English.. oh by the way I can't understand half the Brits i encounter.

Thailand is for exploration not buying a home and planting yourself down for 20 years like we do in the west.... at least not at first. Spend a few months here and there. There's wet, smokey and hot seasons. Each area is different.
