pretty small town if you ask me, usually a bicycle is enough for me to go everywhere and much faster than being stuck in traffic. Also this is Thailand, you have 1000 different options for food, coffee etc within a half KM radius. You also have the bicycle sharing stations they added all over Nimman, Old town, and riverside areas
Why would you need to have a car to live in Chiang Mai? When I lived in the US, so much of my expenses went to my car and CM is a small town, a bicycle or motorcycle is more than enough, you save tons of money, and healthier at the same time. Grab is cheap as well.
I've been to Thailand like 30 times and never been asked for one, people just want to get through Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang as quickly as possible, the queues would be absolutely atrocious if they asked everyone to show a flight out of the country
because the Thai elite visa starts at like $12,000 and I don't need to stay in one place for five years following the same routine every single day, it's easy to spend three months in one place and visit other countries too, we are living on the far side of the world surrounded by dozens of other unique countries and cultures
Why not use the opportunity to actually travel instead of just wasting time and money on visa runs? Variety is the spice of life, go and actually experience another country besides just their immigration counter.
Haha. The thing is when these people ruin one place, like Bali for example, there will always be a new Bali popping up -- you just have to go where the locals go. It's so funny when people find out I lived in Greece and immediately say they want to go to Santorini and Mykonos like it's the whole country 😂 meanwhile the locals will go to Andros, Paros, Naxos or any of the other 5,000 islands...
You start by getting a passport and getting some actual travel experience. If money is an issue, sign up for couchsurfing, join housesitting groups, and stay in hostels. Learn how to travel cheaply on your own first before just coming fresh faced in Thailand and being taken advantage of like every other idiot out here fresh off the plane. These people do nothing but drive up rental prices for everyone so that the landlords can pay off their debts.
