Hi Paul, the 400k/40k amount is for marriage visa, for retirement it is
******
(the 65k/mth “from an international source” also seems to cause endless headaches), which can go down to 400 for most of the year. The big advantage of doing the Non O in Thailand is no requirement for health insurance each year.
My only point was if over 50, no criminal history, have an address and bank account and can leave 800k in the bank then it is effortless forever regardless of marriage status, translations, divorces etc…
Everyone will have different circumstances eg the author wanting to keep work visa option open which makes perfect sense.
I just think many guys/gals think because they are married they should take that visa, when in reality there is absolutely no need.
For the last few years I have read of many issues with Non O IMM Visa’s by marriage, especially given different immigration offices.
As such the advice I give mates thinking of retirement here (and I follow) as long as you’re over 50 and not so short of funds that you need the marriage visa from 800k to 400k!
Just transfer to the Non O retirement. Basically just a bank statement every year and you’re set.
No dramas with certificates, witnesses etc etc AND god forbid the marriage doesn’t last, you have a seamless transition to single Thai life😈
Not hard and pretty quick. I did it a few weeks ago also for the 4th time.
Once you have set up an Immi account there is a form there you can fill out, print and get partner to sign that allows you to do all the correspondence and they will email you with progress reports and requirements.
As stated biometrics done at Sukhumvit Soi 13. Or in Chang Mai. VFS agents handle it. Appointments made online.
If first time you might only get a single entry/3mth visa. As you get a history it will progress to a 3yr multi entry.
Very spoilt up here in Udon Thani with a fairly quiet immigration office. But the line I do my 90 day reporting in (never had more than one person in front of me) has a sign up “ 90 day report OR notification of change of address”.
Hopefully Jomtien office is the same, making it quick and easy.
As stated above, any branch can do statements and letters, it just gets harder if you leave it 12mths.
As John stated above any branch can do a 6mth statement on the spot for 100฿ or for a 12mth you have to pay 200฿ and wait 7-10 days for it to be done in BKK. Whilst it may be too late for this one, my advice (given here a number of times) is, every 2nd 90 day report just spend 5min in bank to get a statement and then the following 2nd 90 day report go to bank and get the 6mth statement (most make a small withdrawal so the statement has the current days balance on it) AND the letter from the manager.
Then straight to immigration for another 12mth visa.
I am probably biased as I am in Udon Thani with the Bangkok bank 50m from immigration office and always fast and easy processing.
Many banks want 7 days for a 12mth statement and 200฿.
You can get a 6mth on the spot for 100฿. So every second 90 day report I walk to the bank on the corner (Udon Thani) and get a statement. Every 2nd time (12mths) they also provide the stamped letter (free), I then stroll to immigration for the 12mth extension.
I had the same. They had entered my phone number incorrectly in the computer. Got the Thai partner to stop at the Udon University where we got vaccinated. As soon as my phone number was corrected it worked as expected (they message you a OTP to that number) and bingo Mor Prom works.
Ps. Tried changing at Udon hospital but they said it had to be done where we got shots.
