love this for you!!! Just fantastic! We bought unseen lol as we were not in Thailand at the time - so that was crazy, but absolutely no regrets and it all worked out perfectly. Next time you come to Ao Nang, maybe we can have a drink together š
I agree with all your points lol... The island has been good to us tho and it was lovely to raise our children here - but it's time to move on. The island is too small and Canada is too big. I am originally from Germany and met my Canadian husband in 1996 in Railey Bay, Krabi and moved with him to Canada in 1998. The time has finally come and we can move back to Thailand and not just visit 5 weeks/year. We bought a 2 bed 2 bath pool villa in Ao Nang, Krabi during covid and it's literally a dream come true. Where abouts are you in Thailand? Now with all that being said lol - thank you about the info about Mexico!! I will definitely check it out - it peaked my interest now lol. My earnings are quite good at the moment, so I'd be interested to see what's required :)
small world - I am in Cowichan Bay! While Van Isle is absolutely beautiful - itās suffocating me after 26 years being here.
The LTR wonāt work for me unfortunately as I donāt qualify for the āwork-from-Thailand-professionalā category and the others wonāt allow me to work legally (which is very important to me).
My husband can tag along on my non-b visa.
Do you have to be in Mexico every year to be considered a tax resident there? Iāve been looking a (teeny tiny!!) bit into the options of having tax residency in a low tax country but with all thatās going on right now as we prepare to move in November - I just donāt have the capacity and bandwidth š¤·š½āāļø
we already own a house in Thailand and I will continue to work in my existing online business (I will have a work permit). Some of my work is being taxed through an employer of record but the other money we are bringing in (husbands pension and my income from my business) is what we are currently researching. We will be non residents of Canada, my husbands pension will be taxed in Canada so with the tax treaty he shouldnāt be taxed in Thailand again. As I am operating as a sole prop I will not have to pay taxes in Canada but maybe in Thailand. Thatās what I am researching right now š®āšØ and itās giving me a nose bleed lol š¤Æ
Thanks for sharing Jim! A timely post for us as we are preparing to move to Thailand and trying to get our ducks in a row and figuring out how it all works. This is helpful! š
I am going down that route because even tho my work is completely remote, I do want to work legally while in Thailand. We are moving to Thailand in November and while my husband is retired, I still want to run my own business and continue to work and I do not want to do that illegally. Through Shelter I will have a visa that allows me to stay as long as I wish and a work permit that allows me to work legally and my husband will get the Non-O attached to my Non-B. It's the only way I could find that allows me to stay AND work in the Kingdom.
I will be using a company called 'Shelter Global' as an EOR and getting a Non Imm B visa with work permit. Just started the process so it's not been approved by immigration yet, but I know people that use them with no issues. Comes with a cost but check them out and see if that would maybe work for you :)
