It's not a return ticket that's needed. It's a ticket out of Thailand. Normally this is checked by the airline bringing you in, hence most people claiming they were never checked... They were, just not by the people they were expecting to be checking them.
Yes, rediculous, in Kanchanaburi they wanted a copy of my birth certificate together with a translation notarised by the UK embassy. I think it's a scam so I keep having to pay for residence cert from Immigration.
most of Thailand's local government, still promote the wearing of masks. Samui and other tourist areas/islands are very much the exception to the rest of Thailand
