I think that is wise of you, myself I can’t wait to turn 50 in 2.5 years so I can get the retirement visa. It’s a walk in the park compared to marriage visa.
I have lived here permanently for 16 years and was just about to apply for marriage visa but when I saw the requirements I changed my mind, then I asked around among my friends that lived here longer than me and they confirmed my suspicions. I don’t hang in bars and listen to drunks. If I open my mouth facts come out or I stay quiet. Just check what this groups experts say about my comments in this thread and you can see that they agree with me 100%. I know Thailand better than most Thai people and I was giving you good advise, what you do with it I couldn’t care less, but please go get a marriage visa and find out for yourself 😂😂😂
Immigration officers at borders only accept cash, I have border bounced 4 times this and last year before I got my long term visa and have never been asked to show funds (if you can call 20k baht funds 😂). But I always carried 20k and a return bus ticket just in case, better safe than sorry.
I refuse to get marriage visa because of the mountain of requirements and headache it brings. Have many friends went thru that obstacle course already.
Now I have ED-Visa because I want to learn to read and write Thai. After that I will use retirement visa or work visa with work permit
Anonymous participant well, immigration will talk to your neighbours and there’s no guarantee that someone is jealous or envious of you or dislikes you and say things to sabotage for you.
And every year when you extend your visa you have to do the whole process again with all the documents and copies of them and new photos of you and your wife in each room in the house and outside the house. And marriage visa and Thai child visa requires much more documents and documentation than any other visa.
But if you prefer that headache every year over and over again then do it.
Many of my friends are so fed up with all that hassle that they now changed to retirement visa instead.
Don’t change to marriage visa it’s the biggest headaches of all visa in Thailand (together with Thai child visa), an obstacle course of requirements and immigration coming to inspect your home to see if you’re really live together and questioning neighbours etc.
I’m married myself to a Thai wife but I will never ever get a marriage visa because there’s many and far better visas to have that has far less requirements and intrusiveness in your privacy.
you don’t think I checked that first, and you’re partially right but there are a few schools that combine online with onsite education and mine is one of them and the school is approved both by immigration and MOE.
After so many years in Thailand you should know that there is no such thing as a general no or a general yes in Thailand. Many special solutions for everything here. And as I mentioned I meet with immigration once a month at my school to take photos with them, nothing will happen regarding my visa as long as I learn to read and write Thai from a MOE approved school with immigration’s approval.
And I don’t need to ask any volunteers because I have friends in more than one government institution here, immigration included.
