TLDR : Answer Summary
The possibility of opening a bank account in Thailand with a 1-year student visa varies. Generally, students in a degree-seeking program may open an account; however, challenges exist for those on informal education setups like language schools or short courses. The traditional Ed visa is a series of 3-month visas rather than a 1-year visa, and recent policy changes have made it more difficult for many to open accounts, often requiring students to provide additional documentation such as a house contract, student ID, or a recommendation letter from their school. Individual experiences at different bank branches, particularly Krungthai Bank, have varied, and policies can shift frequently.

I did it in end of June, after facing multiple rejections. The branch that worked for me and my friend was KrungThai in Central Rama 9.

Yes, you can but it have so few

After they change the policy few week ago, it’s quite hard to find the bank that willingly open for you.

More process is required, but it still can do. (According to my research last week)

Not right now with the Ed visa

Ed+ (Ed plus) visa you can

An Ed visa is technically not a 1 year visa it’s a series of 3 month visas that can be denied at anytime by the I/O you sit in front of

Good Luck

If you're studying at a university in a degree seeking program, then you should be able to open a bank account.

If you're doing informal education like Thai language school or Muay Thai, you will struggle to find a bank that will allow you to open an account.
