Well given that the news outlets in Bangkok are reporting that the parliament has voted to make visas better for tourism, I'd say this rumour is absolutely BS

The stipulations are that you cannot do any work within Thailand that would prevent a Thai person holding that position (this includes volunteering). Therefore owning shares wouldn't be an issue.

Aussie here. Australia and Thailand have a treaty that means you will not be double taxed. Once you are in Thailand for 181 consecutive days you're a resident for tax purposes. This means that any money you bring into Thailand attracts a 17% tax rate. It's important that you use a tax consultant who will be able to show that you have either already paid tax in Australia or that you're tax exempt in Australia.

Absolutely bullshit!!!

You can get a reasonably good 2 bedroom and 2 bathroom condo on the beach iin multiple areas of Thailand (both sides of the gulf) for 20k baht. That's at most $1000/month AUD. That same apartment on any beach in Australia would be a minimum cost of $3500/month but more likely closer to $5000/month.

Internet in Thailand is going to cost you 300 baht per month, which is $15 per month. I pay $80/month in Australia. In Thailand I can eat very well for 200 baht per meal, There's no option to go out and eat for $10/ per meal here in Australia.

YOU need to stop being a victim!!!
