Hello, please help 🙏

I’m a bit confused about how to state my employment status in the DTV application.

I previously worked in Thailand under a Business Visa, but that visa has already been cancelled long ago and I am no longer working in Thailand.

I’m now applying for DTV under Soft Power.

At the moment, I don’t have a full-time job.

I may receive occasional freelance payments, but it’s not regular income.

I do have sufficient savings from my previous jobs and personal savings and can meet the financial requirement with bank statements.

In this case, is it better to state my status as “unemployed” or “freelancer”?

I’m asking because if I choose freelancer, I’m worried they might question why I’m not applying under the Remote Worker category instead.

Anyone with similar experience, I’d really appreciate your advice. Thank you! 🙏

Hi there,

I am thinking of getting a remote job because my income as a freelance might not be enough. How long do I need to hold that job until I can apply for the visa? Not asking if I need to keep it, that seems obvious 😉

Any help appreciated. Just had a request for additional information from the Australian Thai Embassy.

I'm unsure what I need to provide for the "business registration of my company", as it isn't my company, I work for the Company and have provided my statement of employment. Also stated that I an employee and remote worker.

"Other request documents: Please provide a business registration of your company."

Hey everyone,

I’m a German citizen currently preparing my DTV application at the Thai Consulate in Munich and would love to hear your thoughts or experiences.

* I’m still officially employed by a German company, but I’ve been laid off and will be on paid garden leave from Nov 1, 2025 to Feb 28, 2026.

* I already landed my first freelance gig (starting Oct 15, 2025), earning €1,600/month, with a written contract and confirmation that I can work remotely and from abroad. I have a German business registration (currently as side business until I switch to main business by March 2026).

* Financial evidence & document indicating current location are not an issue.

I am additionally planning to submit:

* Cover letter

* Screenshots of my website (with my services)

* Screenshots of my Upwork profile (with my services)

Question:

Should I mention my current employment and garden leave until Feb 2026 in my motivation letter?

* If I don't, I am worried because I can't yet provide proof if income as freelancer (as I will only issue my first freelancer invoice beginning of November)

* If I do, I’m worried it might raise questions or lead to requests for confirmation from my employer – which I probably can’t get.

Any opinion is appreciated. :)

Thanks

Hello everyone,

I’m planning to apply for the new Destination Thailand Visa (DTV). I qualify on the financial side since I have over $50,000 in liquid funds, and I can also provide my current employment proof at the time of application.

My question is:

👉 If I resign from my job after getting the DTV, will this cause any issue when I try to re-enter Thailand on the same visa? Does immigration actually check employment status at re-entry, or is showing funds enough?

Has anyone here faced or heard about this situation? Would really appreciate your guidance 🙏

When applying using soft power Muay Thai route in Jakarta and when planning to live off investments without having a job/income/company, is the experience that one should put Unemployed or Freelancer under Employment Details?

Question about DTV visa – switching from employment to freelance

Hi everyone,

I currently hold a DTV visa under employment with a company. If I leave my job, will my DTV still be valid?

Do I need to update my status to freelancer and show proof? Or once the visa is granted, is maintaining the 500k THB in the bank the only requirement?

Has anyone been through this process and can share what steps are needed?

Thanks in advance!

DTV extension. Some say we have to resubmit all docs again for the extension after the initial 180 days of DTV visa. (hope this is a joke)

OR, we can do border run to extend it without going through the docs check.

Cause my concern is, what if one does not have the employment anymore after the initial approval of the DTV visa. I think they can still keep the visa status somehow, I heard.

thanks for you help!!

Hi DTV fam! EMPLOYMENT QUESTIONS: I’m in Indonesia, applying for the soft power DTV. I have the 500k in the bank for over 3 months. I get some income from investments/dividends, but am not employed. But some $1000-3000 deposits have been made into my account in the last few months. Should I put unemployed and no income?

Also, what do they mean “last port of embarkation”? Where I’m coming from when I return to Thailand with my DTV? Or where I left from when I came to Indonesia to apply for my DTV? I think the first option, but want to be sure 😆🙏 Thanks for your help!!!
