Do I need a letter of employment for the METV if I have a passive income?

Question regarding METV..

Once my current ED visa runs out in June, I plan to leave Thailand until the end of the year. My girlfriend is Thai so we like to visit her homecountry atleast half a year out of every following year starting in 2021. It seems that the METV is the best option for this (especially after a two year history on border bounces, setv’s and a year ED visa).

I did a bit of research on the METV and I see some websites saying that a letter of employment is required but I also see some websites mention that not all consulates require this. Can anybody elaborate on this? I basically have a passive revenue stream so I have no chance of acquiring such document. All the other requirements shouldn’t be an issue and I’m aware of the $7000 bank statement too.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is considering applying for a METV (Multiple Entry Tourist Visa) after their ED visa expires, but is unsure about the requirement of an employment letter due to their passive income. They mention that different consulates may have varying requirements regarding this document.

The guys at The Hague are quite cool with differing circumstances.

Just tell them what your circumstances are (no employment but valid income) and they are able to work around what you have.

For instance in the US you can get a 6 month METV from 4 consulates (Chicago, Los Angeles, New York & Washington DC). BUT some of those consulates only want the 7K US in the account on the day you apply for the visa while some other ones want it in there for SIX months before you apply.

Read the requirements carefully

Nope, sorry

I do not know. Contact them directly.

Most thai consulates (At least ALL of them in S/E Asia require you hold permanent legal residence in the country where you're applying for the 6 month METV) meaning if you don't live in that country LEGALLY ( not as a tourist) you can't apply.

The nearest thai consulate that will sell a 6 month METV without requiring legal residence is the one in Brisbane Australia. They will sell it to most passport holders by meeting the proof of funds.

interesting thanks. So I really only have the consulates in Netherlands to choose from. Do you have any info if they care about letter of employment?

Seeing as about the only place you can get a 6 month METV is from a thai consulate in your country how about stating what country AND what consulate you're gonna be using?
