I am currently living in Thailand on a non-immigrant O spouse visa. I plan on applying for a DTV 6-months before the end of my current non-immigrant O as this is the only time I will be in another country for long enough for the application process. A few questions:

1) I see on the document list I need a 'Document Indicating Current Location.' Does that mean Thailand or UK?

2) Assuming it means the UK, what kind of document would that be e.g. a bank statement with my parent's UK address on?

3) Am I correct in thinking I can't start the application process before I leave Thailand?

4) Do I need to do something to cancel my non-immigrant visa or will it auto cancel when I get my new DTV?

DTV Approved! Big thanks to everyone here for the advice 🙏 Thought I’d share my experience:

* UK passport holder, sole trader running an online business.

* Applied in HCMC on 9th Sept. Sent: business + personal bank statements, a 4-page PDF of old socials, Shopify reports (turnover + sales last 2 years), a few supplier invoices, and scans of passport/exit stamps. All the other basic stuff they ask for on initial aplication.

On 15th Sept they asked for 6 months of salary slips (which I don’t have). I instead:

* Highlighted all transfers from my business to personal account over 6 months.

* Added a short cover letter explaining I take drawings instead of a salary + screenshot of £12k savings (~518,800 THB). Made sure the screenshot included the date and time on my computer.

* Combined everything into one PDF (important tip: keep each requested section as a single PDF).

They also wanted photos of every passport page (even blank ones) with proof of date/time. Couldn’t find a newspaper and spent far too long walking round Ho Chi Mihn looking for one 🤣 so I used a coffee shop receipt showing date/time next to the pages, again combined into one PDF.

📌 Timeline:

* Applied: 9 Sept

* Extra docs requested: 15 Sept

* Approved: 18 Sept 🎉

Thanks again for all the posts in this group, really helped.

If anyone has any questions about my application that might help please ask.

Want to apply for Soft Power (Muay Thai) in Germany as a German citizen. Has anyone done that and got approved and can let me know what documents you've send in, how long it took and if the embassy had any additional requests?

Preparing for Non-O marriage evisa application in Vientiane. Can I use a year of funds from a U.S. account, or is 2 months in a Thai bank enough? What documents are required, Thai marriage cert, Kor Ror 2, handwritten letter from my wife, proof of current location in Laos, anything I’m missing? Lastly, is Vientiane or Savanakhet faster in SEA, any other option? TIA

DTV Approved (Soft Power - Muay Thai) - Singapore - Non Singaporean

Hello! This group has been super helpful and I wanted to share my experience. I was living in Singapore under a work visa and I applied under the Muay Thai category.

First attempt - 26 March - Rejected due to wrong Place of Issue. I put the issuing country of my passport but it was supposed to be the "Authority" field.

Second attempt - 22 April - Provided all the documents (my passport, rent contract in Singapore under my name, my work visa screenshot and picture, letter from my girlfriend stating I was going to live with her in Thailand, her ID and her rent contract, Muay Thai training contract including the gym's owner passport and banking statement in SGD).

Interview - 13 May - They asked me a lot of questions to double check my situation. Where I was working, how long I knew my girlfriend, my profession, if I ever had trained Muay Thai before, etc. After almost 2 hours, they approved it in the final of the interview.

Arrival in Thailand - 16 May - I arrived in Thailand and they didn't ask anything, just stamped the passport. I had also put my Thai visa number on TDAC already, this could have helped.

Feel free to ask any questions.

My wife of 23 years (from Buriram) has been in the UK with me for 22 years and also UK paasport holder as well as Thai passport holder.

In July I start the application for Non-O visa but not sure which option to select on the E-Visa website. I’m not so clever with computer stuff.

As we have marriage certificates all in Thai as we were married in Bangkok, this is OK as we will be extending the Non-O based on marriage whilst in Thailand?

Not sure what other paperwork I need. The money will be in the Thai bank which i will open first day I land.

But applying for the Type-O is the first step and need to get it right!

Any help much appreciated m.

Success - Jakarta

Applied - 13th May

Additional doc request - 21 May

Pending Approval - 22 May

Approved - 22 May

Workcation

Docs:

2 months bank statements with 500000 THB on closing balances

google currency conversion

company registration

Employment contract

Permission to work in Thailand

resume

professional portfolio

Indonesia stay permit (didn't do eVOA, specifically so I could get a physical stamp)

VOA payment receipt

hotel key card + sleeve with hotel address

selfie in front of hotel

Additional doc request: 3 months bank statements

I was slightly worried because the account I sent I only use for occasional cash savings (money is usually in the stock market) so it was empty on the 3rd month. I sent 6 months just to be safe + updated currency conversion.

DTV (workcation) APPROVED IN 3 WORKING DAYS

(British Passport via the Sri Lankan Thai Embassy, Colombo)- currently on holiday here for 3 weeks with no flight booked to Thailand until my VISA was approved (hoping it will be within this next 3 weeks)

Before applying I have been living in Thailand for the past 2 and a half years on a NON O Visa, dependent on my British wife having a NON B Visa and work permit.

Date applied: 8th of May 2025 at 12:30 (Day 0)

Stage 1:

Passport/selfie uploaded

Confirmed personal details- it did throw me out when it said "Home address " (so I put my UK address) and then I said my current location wasn't my home address and it said to enter home address again? From reading advice on this page, I entered my hotel address in Colombo

I then confirmed workcation- I have a UK based buiness and I am the sole employee so clicked the buisness owner option

Stage 2: Evidence of sufficient financial assets

Documents uploaded were a contents page and then included a letter from "my employer" (me) supporting the DTV application, 3 months payslips (feb/mar/apr 25), my bank statements including the final balance showing over 500,000B- this bank account is brand new so could only show April/May therefore I also submitted a letter of support from my wife (she has just sold a buisness in Thailand and transferred me the money from her thai account to my thai account), 6 months bank statements from my wife's thai account, copy of our marriage certificate, a picture of her passport and her picture of her thai exit stamp.

Stage 3: Employment contract- remote working/certificate of incorporation

Again for this section I uploaded a contents page and submitted a cover letter from employer highlighting I can work remotely and I am willing to work within the constraints/in accompliance of the DTV, my employment contract- again highlighting/allowing me to work remotely and a certificate of incorporation for my UK based company registered with Companies House.

Tools used: I had some difficulty uploading so many documents and even some pictures (of my passport/selfie) as they were "too big". After reading advice from this page I used a website called "Tiny JPG" to compress the size of pictures and another website called "ilovepdf" to help merge and compress any other documents.

UPDATE: Request for further documents on 8th of May 2025 16:00 (Day 0)

"Kindly send a photocopy of ALL pages of your passport including both the visa and non visa pages"

UPDATE: 9th of May 2025 15:10 (Day 1)- Request for interview email. Interview scheduled for the 14th of May (the 10th/11th is weekend and 12th/13th are holidays). It was strange when I logged onto the Evisa website to "accept" the interview it came up as a document request and wanted me to upload something. For this I just wrote on a word document that I would like to accept the interview and would see them on the 14th.

UPDATE: 14th of May 10:30 (Day 2)- arrived at the Thai embassy having printed everything out. After a 20 minute wait or so, they took my documents, had a brief chat- confirming that my company was UK based, checked that I am infact IN Sri Lanka and I understood how the DTV worked (I can't earn money in Thailand). He checked that my non o and my wife's non b/work permit was cancelled (which is was) and asked if my wife would be applying for a dependent- I explained she was returning back to the UK and IF she was applying as a dependent, it wouldn’t be until later on in the year. There was no questions about my company, my job role and I wasn't asked to show my bank. No problems- out again in 5 minutes.

UPDATE: 14th of May 17:30 (Day 2)- I didn't have any email alerts or anything but though I would log on to the e visa website in the evening and it's updated to pending approval...

UPDATE: 15th of May 14:35 (Day 3) VISA APPROVED 😍

This page has been a massive help with my VISA application with certainly knowing what to (and what not to submit)! I feel lucky I sorted out a bank account using my Non O status before leaving Thailand! With anyone currently living in Thailand on ED VISAs I suggest you get a thai bank account before switching to the DTV.
