Preparing for Non-O marriage evisa application in Vientiane. Can I use a year of funds from a U.S. account, or is 2 months in a Thai bank enough? What documents are required, Thai marriage cert, Kor Ror 2, handwritten letter from my wife, proof of current location in Laos, anything I’m missing? Lastly, is Vientiane or Savanakhet faster in SEA, any other option? TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a Non-O marriage eVisa in Vientiane, you'll need to prepare several documents, including a Thai marriage certificate, Kor Ror 2, a handwritten letter from your wife requesting the visa, proof of your current location in Laos, and potentially bank statements for the last three months from either a U.S. or Thai bank account. Both Vientiane and Savanakhet have similar processing times of 3-5 business days, depending on whether you apply in person and pay the visa fee at the consulate.

Doesn't matter if it's Savannakhet or Vientiane, they are about the same processing time 3-5 business days after you go to the consulate in person and pay for the visa. Hanoi and HCMC you pay online so don't have to go to the consulate, but I think they're the same processing time 3-5 days

You go, log into the system, apply, submit the application, get the confirmation, print it, take that to the consulate between 9 and 11 M-F to pay for the visa and then wait for it to be approved or rejected.

You use the hotel address in Lao as your current address, you use your address in thailand as your permanent address, you upload the visa/entry stamp to Lao to show you're in the country. You need the marriage certificates (the rose bordered one Kor Ror 3 and the Kor Ror 2),

thai wife's i/d,

her house book listing (where she's registered in the house book)

a short letter written by her asking they issue you the visa

It clearly says bank statements for the last 3 months, so you could use the thai account but upload 3 months of statements OR use the US account 3 months statement. If it won't fly they'll email you for more documentation

Thanks for the clarification,

. I saw the 3 months but I was mixing it up with my previous in country app where I had 2 months in the account, my mistake. With the upcoming long weekend, I’m guessing I’ll need to stay through that next weekend if applying on Aug 13. Is there a better group or forum to check current processing times? Malaysia does seem slower from what I’ve read.

@Pete *****
nope, no better group that I know of

it's about 3-5 business days after you pay at both Vientiane and Savanakhet

Although once in a great while people are actually approved as they're heading back to the hotel after paying 😮 ) There's just no rhyme or reason.

If you're going, go on a week without holidays, get there Sunday, apply online, print the confirmation, show up Monday to pay and then you hopefully should be approved by Thurz/Fri at the worst.

One more question, my understanding is you can’t fully submit until you’re in country (which makes sense), but is it problematic to start the application and upload docs ahead of time, then finish with hotel info and entry stamp once you arrive?

@Pete *****
nope upload the documents, leave the application in your profile without submitting it (you can store up to 10 applications) then go back and add the visa/entry stamp once you get there.

Make sure you check the data entry carefully, especially the scan of the passport where it auto fills off the MRZ area of the data page of your passport.

That gets filled in wrong a LOT, you can edit it, BUT if you save it when you go back it isn't edited and you have to do it again before you submit it

That's good to know, and I read a previous comment from you mentioning the passport autofill so that's already in mind. Thanks again.

No issues as long as you’re present when you’re formally applying by sending the application.

Cheers, thanks for that info.

Right, I saw the sameday turnaround reports too but didn’t want to get my hopes up. I’ve backed myself into a corner timing wise and have to go next week, but I’ll make it work. Just makes booking hotels and flights a bit tricky 😅

Thanks again for all your help
