I would like to share my experience. I have received the approval for DTV Soft Power in September from the Thai Embassy in Paris (I am French).

I have applied with Arun Cooking School for their 6 months course. The application was prepared with the help of a visa agency in Bangkok.

Visa was approved by the Embassy. However when entering Thailand to activate it this weekend, they were reluctant at first because I had already spent some time as a tourist before during the year.

Immigration officers in Suvarnabhumi were super nice and calm during the whole process. I had to wait a bit for an 'interview' with them. They were surprised that I was granted DTV for cooking school, and were wondering if I should have an education visa instead...

In the end, they stamped me for 180 days and told me they were going to notify the Embassy about their feedback. I find it weird because they are the one to set the rules for DTV anyway and visa was granted already.

So a bit of a stressful experience but it ended well!

I wonder what will happen in May 2026 when I want to stamp another 180days! Especially if I have not extended my cooking lessons (not sure if I will, I would like to try something else)

Hello!

I have a couple of questions regarding the choice of Embassy/Consulate.

1. I applied in Frankfurt/Germany and got a request for addiitional documents four days after I initially applied. Since I submitted the documents, it's been almost three weeks without any update. Has anyone else here gone through Frankfurt in recent weeks/months? What are your experiences?

2. I thought I have to go through Frankfurt, because it's close to where I live, and they are responsible for handling request from people in my region. Since there is a lot of discussion in this forum about choosing a different embassy/consulate for applying, I would love to understand the way this would work. Are you guys then travelling to the place of that specific consulate and stay there until the decision on the DTV has been made? Thanks in advance!

— STOLEN PASSPORT / DTV ISSUE ADVICE -

Hi everyone,

I’m a Canadian currently in Thailand, and my passport was stolen while I was in Europe before re-entering Thailand. I already have a new passport, and my DTV visa is electronic — it was not a physical sticker, and I still have the DTV approval email, receipt, and e-Visa PDF copy.

When I entered Thailand on November 6, I was given a 60-day tourist stamp on arrival, but I’d really like to continue using my valid DTV visa that’s linked to my stolen passport.

I wanted to ask if anyone here has successfully:

1. Re-linked their electronic DTV to a new passport after a theft or renewal, or

2. Had an agent or immigration office assist with this exact process/ what documents you needed?

Documents I currently have:

• photocopy in black and white of the stolen passport ID page and all pages with stamps before exiting Thailand to go to Europe in September

• Police report (original + translation)

• New passport copy

• Entry stamp (Nov 6) and TDAC form

• DTV e-Visa PDF, approval email, and payment receipt

• TM30 (current residence)

• Supporting docs: passport replacement application + proof of payment, updated lease with my new passport number on it, most recent bank statement, outbound flight and updated Muay Thai invitation letter with my new passport number on it.

Has anyone successfully done this, or know which immigration office or visa agent can handle it?

Otherwise, if you had to renew your passport and your DTV was linked to your old passport - how did you fix this?!!

Any first-hand experience would really help me decide whether to try re-linking or re-apply from scratch.

Thanks in advance for any guidance 🙏

On my Third document request from KL, applying via Musy Thai, I have already submitted a 6 month statment with a balance of £17,000 and have been asked for 3 months ‘certify by the bank’. I bank with NatWest and they don’t offer such service? Any advise

If I understand the process for moving stamps to a new passport correctly (Non-O Over 50 Extension) at CW:

Enter Thailand with both passports, new passport gets stamped in.

At CW

* Need transfer stamp form and both passports

* Updated bank book and copy (bank book only. Not the full year report that takes a week from Bangkok Bank?)

* Copy of photo pages from each passport

* Copy of last arrival stamp (from the new passport) and last extension (from the old passport)

They move the stamp to the new passport.

And then, since I got my multiple re-entry permit at Suvarnabhumi, I need to take both passports there to move the re-entry permit, which I can do on my next flight out.

Am I missing anything?

This morning I went to apply for a re entry permit to travel in October, however I was refused because I didn't have a TM 30, ( Phuket immigration) I don't recall having needed one before when applying for a re entry permit, interesting because apparently you can apply for a re entry permit at the Airport with only your passport, passport photo and copy of passport pages, anyone had experience with this situation and can update me on this predicament please. 🙏😊

Hi all. I am not sure what is the latest one can submit a 90 day application on line. Is it 7 or 10 days before due date. If 7 days and due date is 1st September is today the last day to apply. Thanks for your help

Just to let others know if you didn't already know, ref you Retirement visa stamp or other stamps and the 90 day report.

I got my retirement visa stamped in my passport dated 2nd July 25 ok. Put the small bit of paper they give you to tell you your next 90 day report was dated 19th May 25. Now this confused me as I thought the stamp in my passport was the time the 90 days would start from (Wrong) it's the small bit of paper that was dated 29th May that the 90 days works on. They told me you need to go by this date and not your visa stamp. So as you can see my next online report now is the 16th Nov.

Hope this helps anyone out as it was a bit confusing for me.

My DTV Visa Extension Got Approved

I just got my DTV visa extended for another 6 months *inside Thailand* at Chiang Mai Immigration.

Yes, it was successful — but the process was tiring, and mentally draining.

Let me say this upfront:

If you have the option to do a border bounce or a short trip to a nearby country, I strongly recommend that route. It’s far smoother and less stressful.

But if you’re someone who *has* to extend inside Thailand — or is just curious about how it works — here’s my experience.

## Document Checklist (based on my case):

You’ll need a solid stack of documents prepared in advance:

* Passport bio page copy

* Visa sticker page copy (*or eVisa printout*)

* Latest visa stamp copy

* 90-day report copy

* TM30 printout

* TM7 Visa Extension Form

* Bank Certificate

* Bank Statement (500K must be deposited 1 month ahead)

* Updated bank passbook (with transactions up to application date)

* House rental contract

* Rent transfer receipts (Your name and Renter name should be on those)

* Employment contract

* Company registration (of your employer)

* Employment certificate with most recent date

* Acknowledgement of penalties for visa overstay

* Resume / CV (for Workcation category)

* Proof of remote work (past and present projects, screenshots, links, etc.)

## Step-by-Step Process at Chiang Mai Immigration:

1. Start by getting a queue ticket for a document check outside the immigration building.

2. When the officer sees it’s a DTV case, you’ll usually be asked to consult with a specific officer since this category is still relatively new.

You won’t meet them right away — they’ll give you a time to return.

3. When it’s your turn, answer their questions clearly. If they feel your documents aren’t enough, they’ll let you know what’s missing and ask you to return the next day.

4. The next day, you go through the same document check process outside.

5. If your paperwork is complete, they’ll give you a new queue number and send you *inside*.

At this point, you’re moving in the right direction.

6. Present your full set of documents at the counter. When they see the visa type, you might hear:

**“Oh, DTV.”

**Pay the 1,900 baht fee.

Then wait again while the officer verifies your file. Sometimes, they may still request more supporting documents depending on your case.

7. If your name is called for a photo, that’s a good sign your extension is being approved.

8. Lastly, wait to be called again to receive your passport back with the new stamp.

✅ Done. DTV visa extension inside Thailand, approved.

##

The process can be far more complex than I said here and can be physically and mentally exhausting, especially when you’re not 100% sure what to expect.

I had to go back and forth over two days, and prepare a large stack of documents — many of which took time to gather. I had to talk a lot, clarify things over and over . It was a learning experience, but honestly one I don’t plan to repeat.

For anyone who still wants to try extending inside Thailand, I hope this post helps you prepare.

P.S. Luckily, I got the 6-month stamp straight away rather than the usual 'under consideration' stamp.
