Well, I arrived last night and I have to say that going through immigration and getting my 60 day tourist stamp was a breeze! They didn’t ask any questions or request any documentation as far as onward flight, proof of financial standing, nothing. Just a stamp in my passport, and a smile!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A recent arrival in Thailand shared that receiving a 60-day tourist stamp was an easy process, with no additional documentation requested during immigration. The thread includes comments from others confirming that this is common for both 30 and 60-day stamps, typically requiring just a passport and boarding pass. Some discuss the friendliness of immigration officers, while others highlight concerns about visa requirements and financial qualifications introduced by new visa categories. Notably, there was a mention of a shift in visa exemption rules effective July 15, and how airline policies might sometimes enforce proof of onward travel.

Enjoy your time in Thailand thank you for your info

Just a quick one, while you weren't asked for an onward flight, did you actually have one? Morenoften than not, it's the airline who would ask. If they see it on their system they wouldn't need to ask.

When I passed immigration last December 1st. The IO., guy was extremely friendly, polite and smiled. That made my day on arrival. Then I was questioned in a service station coffee shop by two immigration police. They wondered why I was a farang alone? Understandable. Didn't have my passport on me, but had scanned relevant pages in case I got asked by any officials. Problem was I couldn't find the scans in my phone because of all the junk I've got in the phone. So I asked if they'd like to speak to a Thai friend? They said yes, so I called my friend who happened to be near the coffee shop. He came, spoke to the officers, told my friend on Monday we need to go to immigration and register that I was staying at the Thai families home. This was on Friday early afternoon and the immigration office was about 50 km from where we were, that's why the officers told us to go on Monday. This was on Friday. My friend went about his business, I got on my motorbike and set off back to where I was staying about 25 km away. I was riding on a country road and the officers passed me, tooted their horn and the passenger officer waved out of his window. How nice, these are the reasons why some expats, me included love Thailand. I'd already been in Thailand about a week when we went to immigration. My friend gave his id card to immigration officer who filled out a small document with my passport details and the address where I was staying. Wasn't fined and went on our way.

same for me last week, even on the previous 30 day TV it can be slow with some people asked a few questions. This time they whizzed through my queue and other queues alongside certainly the quickest I have seen over the last 5 years.

The way it should be!!!

What lots of people don't understand is that Thai immigration profiles, and stereotypes those trying to enter, and they don't like poor people, as evidenced by the new DTV visa. Digital nomads/creators complained because there was no visa directly for them, as none could qualify for the LTR visa in that category, so Thailand made the DTV visa especially for them, but included the bt500,000 equivalent in your bank account, and only made it available from outside the country, so poor people could not afford it, and that no agents inside Thailand could provide services to circumvent this financial requirement.

Kool Breez I think the 500,000 baht requirement is to ensure foreigners can cover any health care costs as there is no obligation for health insurance. Otherwise they could be a burden on the thai health care system.
Kool *******
@Marty ******
that's is one element of it, but look at how it eliminates poor people from qualifying.

@Kool ******
500K is peanuts it’s a good weekend out on the town. If one doesn’t have this they should be working in their home country not slumming it in Thailand
Kool *******
@John *******
that's how Thailand feels too.

Kool Breez yeah it's a bit of a chicken and egg situation. In order to get ahead you need to live somewhere cheaper. So I would suggest living in an equally cheap county with less visa restrictions until in a position to qualify for the DTV

nope, just friendly and remember I'm their guest. Sometimes to busy and other times they have a moment and last time coming though a land border they were intrigued with my LTR , they don't see the the LTR often at their location, which set up a nice chat on where, how long, and why I live in Thailand. Then we chatted out some great seafood places to eat where I live.

I have the same experience. We had a chat about picking mushrooms while visiting local immigration and we were exchanging jokes both ways.

Immigration officers are not only officials but also tend to be human beings.

Normal for the 30 day stamp and it's normal for the 60 day stamp. Passport and boarding pass are all you need.

The only people that get asked for more are people with extensive histories in Thailand that are abusing the system.

And generally it's your airline that will ask you for proof of onward travel leaving Thailand.

Guess I got lucky with the Vietnam Airlines too, they didn’t ask for onward flight either. But they sure did sick me for the extra suitcase! Hanoi to Koh Samui$110 US!!

lol! I told the girl, “oh no, I have a ticket, I just need to pay for my extra suitcase”!
David ********

Yeah, Domestic flights are a lot cheaper from what I understand. That would have been a great deal though!

@David *******
one time I looked up the price for an extra suitcase on Thai airlines. They only offer pay by the kg at like $50 per kg
