ottawa and yet in canada but i did it all online sitting in toronto and they didn't really ask for any proof of residence other than my drivers licence.
my partner who is a digital nomad and works remotely as well had her request rejected as she was in canada as a vistor (visa free) she fully qualifies otherwise.
so i think the canadian embassy is a good option perhaps if you are a canadian citizen or premenent resident but not if you are just here on a visitor visa
