Personally I’m not concerned about what could or couldn’t happen and just arrive because once it’s stamped in my passport it’s 60 days, if it’s changed before I arrive then I’ll apply for the appropriate visa or do a few days in a neighbouring country, if your friend isn’t a regular traveler and is a tourist then they won’t have any problems it’s the overstaying they are targeting

Tom Found got a few on here with their knickers in a knot , we hear so many different stories from all over this place so I don’t see the harm in asking and being over prepared

You probably won’t be asked but if you’re unlucky to get an immigration officer who decides to ask then you need cash equivalent in any currency , plastic isn’t always guaranteed to work

not much use arguing on here the government has flagged checking and cracking down on people misusing tourist visas. At the moment it seems to be up to the immigration agent you encounter but it’s going to become widespread so either come for shorter travel periods or get the visa that will allow longer stays. Thailand will lose more people to neighbouring countries who offer better visas and they may change again but who can predict when that happens tourism is already down

Genuine tourists don’t have a problem, so as long as you haven’t done anything stupid before you won’t have a problem,
