I didn't know that it was going to be an issue. I didn't realize that the visa was province based. Obviously, something that I should have been aware of but alas. I will go talk to Chiang Mai first and see if there is any workaround at all. Thanks.

What are the best options for switching schools and visas in Thailand?

If the HR of both your schools will cooperate, it's possible to transfer your visa/work permit across. That's what I did when I moved from CM to Phuket. CM school cancelled in the morning and I was in Phuket with my new school in the afternoon. Not every school can make this happen though.
