It causes no harm to Thailand, helps tourists in difficult situations and gives immigration a chance to handle more urgent matters. Everybody wins.

Thay are not obligated. But if it benefits Thailand (tourists not going home and spending is very nice to have) it is a win-win situation. Considering the circumstances.

From Garrette's link I ended up here for the download of the apps.

I used the app before, and for me it did not work without notifying what was wrong. Hope you have better results. I will give it another try some day, but it was a bit frustrating.😖

Although it would be nice, I believe that is not the rule. Foreigners outside of Thailand, with valid visa, that want to go home to their family in Thailand can not go if I understand the rules correct. But it may very well be different in a few days.

In Chiang Rai above 37.5 you are not allowed in certain places, but that does not mean it is a fever. Usual body temp for most people seems to be 36.1 to 37.2.

That is a start. It would be nice if they stop the 90 days and tm30 checks etc. for a while as well. Cut out bureaucratic procedures that make people visit immigration. Should be a quick fix.

I hope everything works out.

Did you ask what happens if her next visa expires, what happens if she is unable to leave or does not want to leave because of Covid risks?
Roy ***********
I believe you have to void your current visa by leaving the country, so you can apply for a different one. But always check with immigration as you will get 10 answers and 9 will be different.

It says here that you would have to apply for a 90 day Non-O visa at the Thai embassy in your home country, and you can apply for Non-O retirement in Thailand after 60 days.

Not going back to your home country is a deliberate overstay.😉 I doubt they will accept it as an excuse.

Going out of the country and trying to get back in will proof very difficult now. Get health insurance for USD 100,000 and medical certificate. Seems expensive and difficult to figure out where to get it.
