What are the financial requirements for obtaining a Non-O visa in Thailand versus Savannakhet?

I am here on a Non O spousal visa. I got it in 2015 in Thailand and get extensions every year in Thailand.

I also read many people get their Non O in Savannakhet, and say they do not need the Baht 400,000 that I need.

Does getting a Non O outside of Thailand not have any financial requirements, or does it require the equivalent in a foreign currency?

I am not in any need of changing my Visa proces, but trying to understand what the pro's for Savannakhet are.

Thanks for your help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion elaborates on the differences between obtaining a Non-O spousal visa within Thailand and acquiring it in Savannakhet, Laos. The original poster, who has a Non-O visa since 2015 requiring proof of funds (400,000 Baht) for extensions, wonders if the Non-O obtained in Savannakhet has no financial proofs. Comments indicate that while obtaining a Non-O in Savannakhet may not require proof of funds, extensions and the visa activation process can be more complex and may involve border runs every 90 days. The conversation highlights the pros and cons of both visa acquisition methods.

Its 2 completely different things.

A- getting a single entry Non-O (90 days) with the objective of extending.

For the extension process u need to show the 400k etc etc. Which u know cuz uve done it.

B- What u get in Savanaket or Ho Chi Minh with no financials asked is a 1 year multiple entry Non-O but u only get 90 days when u get in.

So people do a border bounce to re-activate another 90 days on the same visa. If u do a border bounce the last week u would possibly get 15 months cuz they would give u 90 days towards the last days of the year validity. Then a 60 day extension based on family and thats 17 months.

If u need to stay inside for the whole year that wouldnt work. Plus the inconvenience and expense of having to leave every 90 days.

I wanna believe its intended for poeple who dont live in TH but have the need to come here often to visit family.

I think what your’re missing is that a monthly wire transfer in and out, for the exact amount, with the same foreign bank, is obviously a financial “carousel.”

Not true income.

Please, you try it first and then report. I’m not risking my yearly extension on an obvious scam.

Thanks, the last bit about not living in Thailand explains for me why there is a difference.

In case I run into funding problems some day, I want to understand what the options are.

U r not extending the Non-O.

They are called "extension of stay" cuz thats what u r extending... the particular stay you are on.

Lets say your Non-O has 362 days (mutiple entry ONLY):

You could leave the country tomorrow... come back... and it would still be valid. In which case they would give u 90 days as they always have.

If u are in month 13-14-15 (u already did whats described above) then u can go to Immigration w 1900 baht (and all documents) and extend ur particular last stay for 60 days based on family.

If u r on a single 90 day Non-O u could also do it getting 5 months out of it.

Multiple have to border runs every 90 days but no 90 day reports etc the visa last 12 months but worked right 17 months can get out of it. No reentry permit come and go as many times as you like.

You can get the non o multiple entry, you don't need proof of money
