It's on my todo list this week. Just been to the hospital to get a doctor's certificate; tomorrow, off to the provincial governor's office; Wednesday should be Ubon Immigration followed by Labour Department on Thursday.
I have always renewed the visa extension first, followed by the work permit extension.
The Labour Department will not extend the work permit unless one has permission from immigration to stay in the country, i.e. the visa extension has been approved. That is how it was explained to me many moons ago and it makes sense.
Courtesy of Google Play: Thailand Digital Work Permit (D-WP) Application is only for Work Permit Holder under section 12 (BOI), a foreigner is worked for a company which obtains Promotional Privileges from BOI (Board of Investment, Thailand). This application would be convenience for a work permit holder under section 12 to keep his/her information of work permit instead of card or book and it would provide a work permit holder by showing his/her profile and work permit history in Thailand.
The officer at the Labour Department office said that I could use, for example, an ATM card or a credit/debit card, and he said that the card would not have to belong to me, which is good because I do not even have a bank account.
For my visa extension/work permit extension, I walk the papers through the system and have been doing this for several years now. My employer (Dept. of NFE) does not pay for the extensions. Therefore they are my responsibility and I have always paid cash. Yesterday, I paid cash for the visa extension, but today, the Labour department said that next year I would have to pay using a card, which means using someone else's card in my case. No problem for me at all.
