FYI: I just extended my work permit for another year at the Ubon Ratchathani labour office this morning. They are now accepting electronic payments only - no cash! This will apparently spread throughout the Kingdom.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post shares an update about extending a work permit in Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand, noting that the Labour Department now requires electronic payments rather than cash. This new policy is expected to expand throughout the country. A comment details how individuals without bank accounts can use someone else's card to make payments for visa-related expenses.

The officer at the Labour Department office said that I could use, for example, an ATM card or a credit/debit card, and he said that the card would not have to belong to me, which is good because I do not even have a bank account.
For my visa extension/work permit extension, I walk the papers through the system and have been doing this for several years now. My employer (Dept. of NFE) does not pay for the extensions. Therefore they are my responsibility and I have always paid cash. Yesterday, I paid cash for the visa extension, but today, the Labour department said that next year I would have to pay using a card, which means using someone else's card in my case. No problem for me at all.

That will be most interesting for employers such as schools, not all employers have that facility.

I also don't like it but cash use WILL be marginalised to the lowest level of the food chain eventually. If not disappear completely.
Well. You're never too old to learn somthing new and if the OP is right, your 'establishment' will have to do so as well.

OK, my ATM card is NOT set up for electronic payments (because I have been too lazy to do so), and all bar 1 of my friends is the same. Maybe your business banking is different, I don't know. What I do know is that my establishment that employs thousands of staff works on a strictly cash only basis.
Not true. Ekectronic payments are not equal to electronic banking.
You are confused.
It's like a petrol card.... you give access to nothong more than the pre-advised funds nothing more nothing less. Needless to say these cards are not linked to the main accounts but hold only pre-advised funds
an ATM card is not always usable for electronic payments and not all establishments would have a card that can be used by anyone. So your comment is pointless.
