Can I Extend My Non-O Volunteer Visa As Usual During the Pandemic?

Tod Daniels I am still confused with current events related to visa extensions.

I work as a volunteer for NFE and my Non-O Volunteer 1-year extension and related work permit both expire on May 11 2020. I intend to extend the visa for a further year next week and following that, extend the work permit. This has been a yearly course of events since 2003.

Can you confirm that I am okay to extend my visa as I have always done, i.e. the amnesty does not affect me? ๐Ÿ˜ซ

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking confirmation on whether they can extend their Non-O Volunteer visa and work permit as they have done annually since 2003, despite the ongoing pandemic and recent amnesty provisions. Community comments clarify that long-term visa holders like the user can proceed with normal extension processes as their visa and work permit situations remain unaffected by the amnesty period.

The amnesty doesn't affect you because your permission to stay doesn't expire within the March 26-april 30 timeline.

Peter, from what I know your visa extension is based on having a work permit, wouldn't you extend your work permit first then show that to immigration to extend your permission based on that work permit?

I have always renewed the visa extension first, followed by the work permit extension.

The Labour Department will not extend the work permit unless one has permission from immigration to stay in the country, i.e. the visa extension has been approved. That is how it was explained to me many moons ago and it makes sense.

It is a good time to go to immigration office because it is less crowded (maybe) than usual.

keep on with what you have always done and get a new yearly extension just like normal.

People on long-term extensions can go get their extension like normal by meeting the requirements they always have. There is NO reason you can't go do it at all.
