Totally same thing happened to me. I got a DTV for cooking class and it happened the immigration officer was about to get off on his lunch break. He told me to follow him and prepare a somtum for him to prove that I am allowed to stay in the Kingdom.

Every year it's becoming more and more nonsense. Turns out you spend more time jumping around all these requirements in different offices / banks rather than enjoying the country itself.

Just FYI - so I went to immigration office and they straight away said it's not required. Also the lady filled all the forms for me for 300 baht and told me to come back 3 days before current 30 day extension expires. It took her 10 minutes total and we were done.

I did that three years ago (I mean calling my friend pretending to be my gf). She even cried a little. They stil didn't let me in ;). I thought Covid thing and little to no tourism would have changed the government mind about expats but well... TIT.

Great advice on the insurance, thank you. And yet I was thinking they can't make things more complex to handle. Once again I was so wrong 😀
