Curiosity question: What is a "visa non o ME" for? Looking at the Thai Consulate Savannakhet web page, it doesn't list any non o visa category as "ME" (or any other abbreviations -- it only describes the different categories, such as "purpose of visiting family member of Thai nationality, a spouse of Thai national", "A spouse or parent works in Thailand", "For the purpose of working for NGO in Thailand", "For the purpose of retirement in Thailand").

So, let me see if I understand this. If you have an extension of stay based on an O-A visa, you never have to cancel that extension because you cannot change the reason for the extension. OTOH, if you have an extension of stay based on an O visa, you need to cancel the extension of stay if you want to change the reason for the extension (for example, changing from "marriage to a thai" to "retirement", or vice versa). You can only change the reason for an extension if the original visa has more than one reason the visa can be granted, and if you change the reason for extending, you need to cancel the current extension first. Do I have that right? (I tried to word that as clearly as I could, but not sure I succeeded. lol)

In my OP I said I'm planning to go to Savannakhet and apply for a non-imm O based on marriage. Isn't that what you just said? My original question was about whether I have to go to the local immigration office and cancel my current extension based on the original O-A before I go to Savannakhet to apply for the non-imm O based on marriage. I think things have gotten very confused in this thread and we're going around in circles.

"Did you get the 2 years of stay out of the O-A visa from your country...?" No; didn't know that was possible, so applied for the yearly extension at the end of the first year in-country in November 2018. "Did you apply for a yearly extension from the immigration office based on being over 50 yet?" If you're asking about applying based on being over 50 and the original O-A visa, I did last year (November 2018). I have not applied for the second yearly extension off of the original O-A visa because I plan to switch to a non-imm O visa based on marriage going forward. "Are you still on an entry from that original visa?" As I said in the OP, Yes.

If you're having difficulty with a web page you might need to use a different browser. The Thai Immigration web page for registering to do TM30 reporting online won't work using the Safari browser on a Mac. You have to use Chrome instead.

I think this post has been flogged enough. Turning off comments. Thanks to all who offered advice/opinion.

Tod Daniels said, "why not just go get your yearly extension NOW...". Because that only helps for one year. It does nothing for subsequent years. Look, I already keep 400Kbaht set aside for healthcare costs (and I have way more than that already in-country in case things really go sideways). I don't need to pay (potentially) over 2 million baht for health insurance I don't need and probably won't live long enough to collect on. ;-)

Robert Lagas: Thank you, that sounds like the best option for me. One question about timing. My current extension of stay is "permitted up to 20 Nov 2019". How many days before that can I go to Savannakhet to apply for the 90-day Single Entry Non-Imm O visa based on being married to a Thai National?
