For someone to hole 800k equivalent, That’s 64,000 baht per year. Tax withholding is 10%. Net gain every year 57,600. Agent renewals are leaving 41,600 in the account every single year. And all you have to do is give your passport to your agent and head to the beach. No forms to fill out. No standing in line at bank trying to communicate and get the annual paperwork. No waiting at immigration every year.

It’s a pretty reasonable way to go. If you can’t afford an agent, DIY will waste a day every year, but only costs 1900
