In my case, I get dividends and rental income in Romania of course I have to pay tax on that income in Romania, but over a certain threshold I have to pay state health insurance. At 3 times the normal rate, unless I am tax resident in a different country.

Therefore I will be becoming a tax resident in Thailand to not have to pay that money.

🤞

You have to be tax resident somewhere, even if you aren’t paying tax in that country.

Example UK national but working for an American company and living in Thailand.

Not spending 180 days in any country mitigates your tax burden, but by default I think you would be tax resident in the UK as it’s your country.

But your income would not be taxed as your not living there and would declare yourself none resident for tax purposes.

(I think)🤔

Welcome to the DTV twilight zone.

It’s disappointing and hard, but lots of alternatives now with revolut, wise, moreta, TAGTHAi, true money etc.

Anonymous participant 850 they are suspending lots of accounts for retirement visa holders.

Not all of them can get their accounts unsuspended easily.

Lots of new hoops to jump through thanks to AML rules

The bank thing is a pain, but still doable.

Anyway the banks are closing or suspending foreigners accounts left right and center.

I didn’t post this on the tax perspective, but more on the renewal process. ie easier to leave and come back rather than renew at immigration. Anyone in an official position I ask says dtv is just a posh tourist visa. So does a tourist have to pay tax???
