Yes, the only way to stay more than 150 days is to extend for 1 year or do a border bounce. You could apply for the Non Imm OA to get stamped in for 1 year, if you're over 50 years old.

You get 90 days with both single and multi entry non imm O visas. You can extend by 60 days or 1 year or leave and re-enter with the multi entry visa.

He'd only get 120 days with a tourist visa. You cant get the 30 days and then the 60 days. They give you the 60 days first. The OP can get single Non Imm O plus 60 days extention, giving him 150 days.

Just get the Non Imm O before you get here then extend for a year using the affadavit from your Embassy.
